کہ اب تک کس تمنا کے بھروسے جی لیا میں نے
اپنا بنا نہیں سکتا مگر اتنا بھی کیا کم ہے
کہ کچھ عرصہ حسین خوابوں میں رہ کر جی لیا میں نے
بس اب تو دامن دل چھوڑ دو یہ بیکار امیدیں
بہت کچھ سہا لیا میں نے، بہت دن جی لیا میں نے

Mohabbat tark ki maine, zuban ko si liya maine
Zamane ab to tum khush ho, zehar hi pi liya maine
Abhi zinda hoon par main sochta rehta hoon khalwat mein
Ke ab tak kis tamanna ke bharosay ji liya maine
Apna bana nahi sakta magar itna bhi kya kam hai
Ke kuch arsa hasin khawabon mein reh kar ji liya maine
Bas ab to daman dil chor do ye bekaar umeeden
Bohat kuch saha liye maine, bohat din ji liya maine

मोहब्बत तर्क की मैंने, ज़ुबान को सी लिया मैंने
ज़माने अब तो तुम खुश हो, ज़हर ही पी लिया मैंने
अभी ज़िंदा हूँ पर मैं सोचता रहता हूँ खलवत में
के अब तक किस तमन्ना के भरोसे जी लिया मैंने
अपना बना नहीं सकता मगर इतना भी क्या कम है
के कुछ अर्सा हसीं ख्वाबों में रह कर जी लिया मैंने
बस अब तो दामन दिल छोड दो ये बेकार उम्मीदें
बहुत कुछ सहा लिया मैंने, बहुत दिन जी लिया मैंने

I abandoned love, I took the tongue like a mourner
Now, the world, you be happy, I’ve even sipped poison
Though alive, I keep contemplating in solitude
Thinking, until now, for what desire have I lived on trust?
I cannot make it mine, but even so, what’s the harm?
Having spent some time living in beautiful dreams
Now, just let go of the futile hopes, O heart!

اداس شاموں کی سسکیوں میں
کبھی جو آواز میری سننا
تو بیتے لمحوں کو یاد کر کے
انہی فضاؤں میں لوٹ آنا
تم آیا کرتے تھے خواب بن کر
کبھی مہکتے گلاب بن کر
میں خشک ہونٹوں سے جب پکاروں
انہی اداؤں میں لوٹ آنا
میری وفاؤں کا پاس رکھنا
میری دعاؤں کا پاس رکھنا۔۔۔
میں خالی ہاتھوں کو جب اٹھاؤں
میری دعاؤں میں لوٹ آنا!

Udas shamon ki siskiyon mein
Kabhi jo awaaz meri sunna
To bite lamhon ko yaad kar ke
Unhi fizao mein laut aana
Tum aaya karte thay khwab ban kar
Kabhi mehakte gulab ban kar
Main khushk honton se jab pukaro
Unhi adaaon mein laut aana
Meri wafaon ka paas rakhna
Meri duaon ka paas rakhna
Main khali hathon ko jab uthaon
Meri duaon mein laut aana!

उदास शामों की सिसकियों में
कभी जो आवाज़ मेरी सुनना
तो बीते लम्हों को याद करके
उनहीं फ़जाओं में लौट आना
तुम आया करते थे ख्वाब बनकर
कभी महकते गुलाब बनकर
मैं खुश्क होंटों से जब पुकारूं
उन्ही आदाओं में लौट आना
मेरी वफ़ाओं का पास रखना
मेरी दुआओं का पास रखना
मैं खाली हाथों को जब उठाऊं

In the sighs of lonely evenings
If you ever hear my voice
